Edinburgh Marathon standard entries are filling up faster than ever and are expected to reach capacity on Sunday 8th January.
The marathon takes place on Sunday 28th May 2023 and attracts thousands of runners from the UK and beyond to take part in one of the
flattest and fastest marathons the UK has to offer.
Starting on Holyrood Park Road with the picturesque backdrop of Holyrood Park, this incredible city centre route brings runners past the impressive Surgeons' Hall, designed by William Henry Playfair in 1832.
It then runs past the Festival Theatre, before turning right and meandering down the historic Royal Mile, heading towards and past the famous Scottish Parliament building. Here runners take in the spectacular Arthurs Seat & Salisbury Crags, as well as the Palace of Holyrood, before departing the Royal Park and heading east towards the coast.
With a descent of almost 90 metres to near sea level, this flat course is up there with one of the fastest marathon routes in the world.
Organisers are encouraging potential runners to sign up before the standard entry period ends, which is expected to be on Sunday 8th January. After this time, runners can still enter the marathon with a charity place, or choose to participate in the increasingly popular Edinburgh Half Marathon instead.
Marketing Director, Annette Aitken-Drummond said "It's great to see the Edinburgh Marathon filling up faster than ever before, with entries coming from all around the world. Edinburgh is such a beautiful city, it's no wonder that so many runners want to come and experience it for themselves."
She continues "We're keeping a keen eye on entries at the moment, and it looks like we'll hit capacity in the next week or so, therefore if you'd like to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon next year, you'd better be quick!".
Second only to London in terms of size in the UK, the Edinburgh Marathon Festival now has nine race distances on offer, guaranteeing something for everyone from the seasoned runner to kids just starting out on their running journey.
The fun kicks off on Saturday 27th May at Holyrood Park with a 10K, 5K and four junior races. On Sunday 28th May the Edinburgh Marathon, Edinburgh Half Marathon and Team Relay start from the heart of Edinburgh City.
