Sydney Marathon - the 7th Abbott World Marathon Major

Australia's premier marathon, the TCS Sydney Marathon, has joined the exclusive list of Abbott World Marathon Majors. There are now seven marathons able to boast membership of this exclusive list.

As disclosed on Sunday, Sydney will join London, Berlin, New York, Chicago, Boston and Tokyo. The new addition extends the renowned list into a whole new continent and into the southern hemisphere.

And it sounds like there will be more additions soon. With talk of the associated 6-star medal (one star for each race) being upgraded to having 9 stars, there are plans to add another two races. Expectations are that these races will be the Shanghai Marathon and South Africa's Cape Town Marathon. We'll be looking out for updates. :)

The inaugural Abbott World Marathon Majors TCS Sydney Marathon is scheduled for 31 August 2025. With the new interest surrounding the race, it's definitely going to be one to watch.
